My First Mother's Day

Yesterday was Mother's Day and my FIRST Mother's Day! It did not disappoint!

I started the morning off giving Keeton a bottle and giving him a bath. His bath time was so funny because he has become all about kicking his feet and splashing water everywhere. You can tell he gets really proud of himself when he does it.
After getting wet and wild, we had lunch then went to the Kansas City Zoo for the afternoon. It was surprisingly chilly so we had to bundle up for the journey around the zoo.

We had a blast. Keeton slept through most of 'Australia'. He's so over Kangaroos:)

We then decided to travel to 'Africa'. Anyone who's been to the KC zoo knows this is not an understatement. A looooong walk across a loooooong bridge coupled with a baby stroller and bad shoes make for quite a trek. But...it was TOTALLY WORTH IT!

Africa at the zoo is similar to the Animal kingdom at Disney. It's this big land where all the animals live. Not just cage after cage. It's a really wonderful experience. We took Keeton out of his stroller at the Cheetahs. They were beautiful. They came right up to the edge of the land where we were walking.

Keeton decided to take a milk break at the lions. We watched as 3 female lions played and rolled around on each other while the big male lion took a snooze on a rock. It was amazing to be so close to these creatures.

(WARNING: gross paragraph ahead)

As we made our way up the trail, Keeton became inconsolable. I noticed he smelled a little foul so we stopped at a restroom so I could change him. Was I in for a treat. Keeton did his business all over his jeans, onesie, legs and back. It was EVERYWHERE! I had always heard about this happening to people but this was my special 1st time Mother's Day treat! I had to call Jason into the the bathroom for help. oh geez!

We finally got him cleaned up and back on the trail. You would have thought he had won the baby lottery. He was laughing and kicking his legs and soooo happy.

We finally finished the 2.5 hour walk (yes...2.5 hours) without another accident. Our little guy was so good during the whole excursion. We were so tired and sore but so happy we decided to go to the zoo.

I am so thankful to be a mother. I am so grateful for my son. It gets sweeter everyday!

3 months old

Hi Keeton,

Boy oh Boy. Time is passing at lightening speed. I can't believe that you are 3 months old.

3 months

3 days old

What a big boy. In the last month you have really "woken up". You are really alert and seem to take in everything around you. I always notice how you stare at my lips when I talk and when I make a p sound or a funny sound, you look up at my eyes and smile one of those gorgeous smiles.

Your personality is really starting to form. Sometimes when you get fussy and start to yawn I will take you in the bedroom to get swaddled for a nap. As soon as I put you down you kick those legs and scream in delight like I'm crazy for thinking you're tired.

Lately, all you want to do is chew on your fingers. This wouldn't be too bad except that sometime you stick that chubby fist a little too far down your throat and Blaaaah...usually all over me or daddy. I have started testing out a stern voice when I see you with your hand in you mouth even though I know you are too young to understand that kind of discipline. When I say "no no Keeton", you will freeze and look up at me with a blank face and then as if on cue, flash me that open mouthed gummy smile.

Other interesting things this month:

*For Easter, I got you some hair gel especially for babies. Daddy and I thought it might help out those crazy curls that are starting to form when we give you baths. Looks like you've got mama's hair.
*Your eyes are still blue but we think they still might change.
*You have grown out of most of your 0-3 clothes and are starting to work on 3-6.
*You are sleeping sooo good lately. I put you to bed most nights around 9:30 or 10pm and you sleep solid until about 4 am. We feed you a bottle let you show some cute smiles then back to bed you go until about 7:30ish. This is a schedule we can definitely live with for a while.
*You have proven to be gassier than daddy and I put together. Let's just say "little stinker" is a MAJOR understatement.
*You are starting to recognize us which...there really are no words to describe this feeling!

Your daddy and I are continuously pinching ourselves because we can't believe that you are OUR son. Our sweet smiling angel. Happy 3 months baby!
Love,
Mama

Easter: aka the best wknd I've had in a while

Oh Easter Weekend, you beautiful couple of days- with your warm sunshine, family gatherings and celebration of a risen lord.
How I loved you!
Align Center
This Easter was truly a great time! I took the day off from work because my mom and dad were coming to Kansas City for a quick visit. They hadn't seen Keeton in about 3 weeks and he had changed a bunch even in that short time. Pop proved to be MVP this wknd as far as Keet was concerned. He laughed and smiled at everything Pop did. My mom thought it was because of Pop's hat but she tried to put it on and Keeton would just look at her dead pan. HAHA!

side note:
Mom, I know you are going to hate this pic of you. But I just couldn't resist that face of Keet's.

On Friday we went shopping and running around the whole day and Keeton was so good. He's very go with the flow. He didn't even mind driving when we got tired.

My parents left early Saturday and Jason and I decided Keeton needed his picture made with the Easter bunny. We went to the mall and the line was INSANE. Each one of us at different times would try to talk the other out of waiting. But in the end we decided that this was just what parents have to do sometimes and we stuck it out for the hour. Keeton slept in his stroller the whole wait till close to the end and when we woke him he seemed to be in a good mood. hmmm...with one more baby in front of us Keeton got really fussy and then SPIT UP on himself. Great! Another joy of Parenthood. He didn't like sitting in that bunny's lap but we got a decent pic of him. (I actually love the pics of kids crying though)

After that, we decided to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather at the park. It was WONDERFUL! I can't wait until Keeton is old enough to be pushed in a swing and slide down the slide. BUT, I'm not wishing our lives away because I love every second of him now.

On Easter Sunday, Jason and I went to Church of the Resurrection with Patti, Kristin and Aaron and their kids. Again, Keeton did great. He slept the whole service and didn't make a peep (except to pass gass-oh geez)

After church, we went to Patti's to eat lunch. We did an Easter egg hunt with my niece and nephew (so cute) and played Wii. It was very relaxing and I didn't take a moment for granted.

I am grateful for Jason and my son. I am blessed with family. I am so thankful for Jesus' victory over death so that we could have ETERNAL LIFE!

Happy Easter!
